Poverty in America

Poverty and homelessness is a problem for youth in America because people are getting poorer and poorer. People who come from poverty don't think that they can rise above it so they don't even try to. Youth in poverty tend to have more responsibility then their peers. Their parent(s) work more than one job or in some cases are not around because of addiction problems and the oldest has to take care of his/her younger siblings. Some youth who live in poverty and/or are homeless don't get enough food so in many cases the only food they get during the day is lunch at school.

As a teacher, I'll make sure that all my students know that they are special and can become anything their heart desires no matter where they come from or how much money their parents make. If I teach higher grades, I'll set time at the end of every day for homework so those kids that don't have time to do it at home can get most of it done. If my school allows it, I'll have a couple snacks during the day, one before lunch and one before the students go home so the ones that don't get enough food will have had something more than just lunch all day.

  1. Those are some good ideas on reaching to all students. Nice work!
